HOW TO GET GOOD GRADES IN VARSITY

1. Create a study schedule and stick to it.

We all know time is of the essence. To be on the safe side with all your varsity modules, make sure to spend an equal amount of time on all of them. To ensure that you spend an equal amount of time for your modules, create a study time-table that will ensure that you study and revise each module equally, so you do not lack in anything, and so that you are always well prepared for any tutorial, test or exam, regardless of the module.

2. Make notes that your brain will understand easier and better.

Make notes that flow and that you will understand any time you go over them. This also reduces the amount of time you’ll spend on trying to make your notes make sense, especially if you are pressed for time and are overwhelmed by your workload.

3. Study prior to the day of the test and practice past question papers.

If you know you are writing a major test in the next 3 weeks, and you haven’t started studying, now is the time to study. For the final week, use that time to finish off your studying and to revise what you’ve studied. This time is also essential to practice past question papers , so you get the gist and confidence of how to answer questions. Also, know yourself. If studying in a group works out for you , do so. However, give yourself enough time to be well prepared for any test – major or minor, exam or non-exam.

  1. Start and do assignments the moment you get them.

Resist procrastination at all times. Doing your assignments early ensures that you get enough time to understand exactly what needs to be done, enough time to do your research and do it well and also time to plan around how you will do the assignment. If it’s a group task, doing it early ensures  that everyone has enough time to gather their information. All tasks matter in varsity and even the assignments you think do not matter, can actually get you from passing a module well, to getting a distinction.

Do your part and your academic record will reward you.
