Small steps can change everything
Hello, SEE YOUTH’STERS. It’s Lerato again. Sometimes we think success comes from one big moment. One big decision. One big opportunity.
But where I come from, I’ve learnt that it’s usually the small steps that change everything.
After seeing different workplaces through Cell C’s Take a Child to Work initiative and hearing people’s stories, I started realising something important. No one has it all figured out from the start. People try things. They learn. They adjust. They keep going.
That made me feel less pressure.
I’ve been focusing on what I can do now, even if it feels small. Paying more attention in class, asking questions when I don’t understand, and listening carefully when someone shares their journey.
Those small actions are building something.
I also realised that confidence doesn’t just appear. It grows when you start taking action. The more you learn and understand, the less scared you feel about your future.
At home, I’ve been sharing what I’ve learnt with my family. Even simple things, like explaining how certain subjects connect to real jobs. It feels good to bring that knowledge back and make it useful. That’s how we uplift each other.
You don’t need to have a full plan right now. You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going. What matters is that you’re moving, even if it’s one step at a time.
So this month, don’t put pressure on yourself to have all the answers. Focus on what’s in front of you. What can you learn today? What can you try? Who can you ask?
Think about your future and explore the possibilities, even if it’s a tiny step at a time. Those steps will take you further than you think.
