See Youth’s University Survival Guide

Hello, SEE YOUTH’STERS. Lerato here, ready to talk about what it takes to not just survive but thrive in varsity. Entering university is a huge step, especially if you’re coming from a place where opportunities can be hard-won. But with the right mindset and some key strategies, you can make your varsity journey a successful one. Let’s dive in!

Time management

First and foremost, time management is everything. In varsity, no one is going to chase after you to get things done. It’s up to you to manage your schedule, balance your classes, assignments, and study time. I suggest getting a planner or using a digital calendar to map out your week. Prioritise your tasks and avoid procrastination – trust me, it’ll save you a lot of stress.

Support

Next, build a support system. University can be overwhelming, and having a group of friends or mentors to lean on is crucial. Connect with classmates, join study groups, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your lecturers if you need help. Surround yourself with positive, motivated people who share your goals – they’ll keep you grounded and focused.

Get involved

Another essential tip is to get involved. Varsity is not just about hitting the books; it’s also about personal growth. Join clubs, societies, or even volunteer. These activities help you develop new skills, meet diverse people, and can even open doors for future opportunities. Plus, they make your varsity experience richer and more enjoyable.

Stay healthy

The freedom of varsity life can lead to unhealthy habits, but taking care of your physical and mental well-being is key to success. Make sure you’re eating right, getting enough sleep, and finding time to exercise. Also, don’t ignore your mental health – stress is real, and it’s okay to seek help if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Lastly, keep your eyes on the prize. Remember why you’re there and what your goals are. There will be challenges along the way, but if you stay focused and determined, you’ll come out stronger on the other side.

Varsity is a journey full of opportunities and challenges. With good time management, a strong support system, involvement in campus life, and a focus on health, you can make the most of it and set yourself up for a bright future.
