Feeling behind? Here’s how to catch up without the stress
Hi SEE YOUTH’STERS. Lerato here.
Let’s be honest: going back to school after the holidays isn’t always smooth sailing. Maybe you didn’t study as much as you planned. Maybe you’re already stressing about marks, teachers, or just trying to get back into a routine. First thing’s first: You’re not alone. And just because you’re feeling behind now, doesn’t mean you can’t catch up.
Start small, start smart
One of the biggest mistakes we make is trying to “do everything” in one go. Don’t. Choose one subject, or even one chapter, and start there. Make a short list of what you need to revise and break it into daily chunks that actually fit into your day. You don’t need 5 hours. Even 30 minutes a day adds up.
Ask for help. It’s a power move!
You don’t have to do it alone. Speak to a teacher, classmate, or tutor if you’re feeling stuck. Join a WhatsApp study group or ask someone to explain that one concept that’s been confusing you. It doesn’t make you weak—it makes you wise. No one gets through school without help, even the top learners.
Use tools that make sense for you
Are you a visual learner? Try mind maps or colourful notes. Love music? Create a playlist to study to. Prefer voice notes? Record yourself explaining a topic and play it back. Studying doesn’t have to be boring.
Be kind to yourself
Falling behind happens to the best of us. What matters more is what you do next. You’ve got time, support, and more ability than you think. So breathe. Start today. You’ve got this.
