Top 5 things to do in Cape Town over the Festive Season
5 fun and affordable activities to do in Cape Town this Festive Season
We all know the Mother City can be fun during December but there is more to Cape Town than the beautiful weather and the Waterfront.
Here are some cheap and affordable things you can do in and around the city. Bring the whole family along for the experience and memories.
Vegan Goods Market
This event in Tokai is all about the well-being of the environment and animals, in a fun and safe environment. R20 will get you into the Vegan Goods Market and for that you will enjoy live music, safe parking and beautiful views as you stroll around over 50 stalls showcasing not just delicious vegan food but also cruelty-free home and body products or clothing. Be sure to follow them on Instagram to check dates, they are not open every day. Although dogs are allowed, the management will still expect you to have well behaved dogs.
The Galileo Open Air Cinema
If watching a good movie under the open skies is your thing, then you’ll love The Galileo. You have to book your spot ahead of time once you have checked their website for a location, it changes all the time, and they also have different prices for their seating arrangement, from a standard at R120 per person to VIP R220 pp. You can bring your own food but also keep an eye on their Instagram or website for further details. Set against spectacular backdrops in Cape Town, this is a firm favourite with both locals and visitors – a memorable outdoor movie experience under a canopy of stars.
Rollercade
Retro cool – that’s how we would describe Rollercade! This roller skating and games arcade in Battery Park is a funky spot no matter how old you are. If you bring your own skates you pay R80, if you rent skates it will cost you R150 and if you’re more of a watching than doing type person then as a spectator it’s R40 for a two-hour session. Bookings are absolutely essential though, especially if you plan on renting a pair of skates from Rollercade. The 7pm to 9pm time slot is only for people 16 years and older. You can also make booking for a group or a party.
Go hiking
Get active outdoors and join a hiking group like Trail Fit SA or Trail Blazers Hiking Club, these two clubs lead groups on the most picture-perfect hikes that Mother Nature in the Mother City has to offer. As with any other incredible service, you have to book a spot. Every hiking tour has its own price depending on the duration of the trip, starting from around R350 per person per trip. Be sure to always bring a water bottle and snacks as well as a towel to wipe the sweat off your face.
Visit the penguins at Boulders Beach
Situated in Simon’s Town, Boulders Beach is the only beach where you’ll get close to the African Penguins. It’s a safe beach for you to swim at but also remember not to feed or poke the penguins, they are a protected species. Although there are restaurants in the area, you could also pack a beach picnic. There is limited parking space and be sure to go at low tide.
