Nothing is more damaging or heavy on your mind and heart than living in a body you don’t like. It keeps you from going out with friends and family, it can be a social barrier preventing you from enjoying your everyday life. Being a bit heavier can also mean you can’t wear the clothes you want to. Not to mention the frustration of the internet promoting skinny and the trolls insulting or body shaming. All of these factors can be downright depressing. We’d like to encourage you to take back your control and life the life you deserve in the healthiest way possible – no fad diets, just lifestyle changes that will change your life.

To help get you started on your journey to lose weight, here are five things to motivate you.

Persistence, discipline & patience

Starting out on something new can be difficult, especially if what you are doing is breaking old habits and cultivating new ones. Our brains are wired to be more at peace when things stay the same, but change is exactly what you need to lose weight and keep it off. It’s a lifestyle change. You will have to remain consistent and persistent with those small changes to see the bigger ultimate change and if you stay patient. you’ll soon enjoy the rewards of your hard work. Slow and steady wins the race after all.

Get moving

There is no right or wrong way to work out, however this is dependent on what your goal is and the time frame you wish to achieve your goal. Your workout routine can be anything from a walk in the park or bike ride down to the beach. It can be sessions with a personal trainer or working out in your back yard following an exercise program you purchased from a professional trainer. Your sweat time can be anything from a 10-minute stroll to a one-hour training session. All that matters is that you get your body moving every day! Mix it up, take a quiet walk with your pooch one day while listening to an uplifting podcast then spend an hour in the gym the following day. It really it up to you.

You are what you eat

We all are bombarded with all the nutrition advice out there and all the different types of diets claiming that you will look like a supermodel in one month. None of them are permanent, healthy solutions to getting in shape. Ultimately you need to listen to what your body needs from you. If this is an overwhelming task for you, seek the advice from a professional dietician or nutritionist who can tell you precisely what minerals and vitamins you are short of and provide you with an eating plan that can restore the balance in your body which you can make your new daily routine so that you maintain your new, healthy look.

Holistic approaches to health

So many people embark on their weight loss journey only to gain the weight back again time after time. Personal trainers are picking up on this and they are creating holistic approaches to your health journey. Being the best version of yourself physically is a holistic body and mind experience… and for some even body, mind and soul. You are more than just your physical appearance, your mind needs to be in good shape too.

Your relationship with food

For you to take care of your physical self, you should also take care of your mental, spiritual and emotional self. If you find yourself leaning toward food for comfort when you face a difficult time, try to; drink more water, eat high fibre foods, and clear your pantry of junk food. Stock up with healthy alternatives and cut down on alcohol. Most importantly build a good support system and lean on them when you are feeling a bit low.

Here’s to a happier, healthier you!
